Baker Trail - North of Cook Forest - Coon Creek Bridge Repair

Reposition a footbridge along the Baker Trail

Help us repair the 13ft Coon Creek bridge on the northernmost section of the Baker Trail. The embankment under the south side of the bridge was washed away by high waters so we will need to move the bridge structure 10 feet downstream and build a structure to lift it 10 inches. This will take some serious rigging and very careful work. Not too much material to carry back but alot of chains, come-a-long, rope, and the grip hoist. One or two people will be in the creek. High waders or shorts will be necessary (if you decide shorts, bring dry clothes). Normally, water is about 2 foot deep there. Keith Klos, from the Allegheny Forest Chapter of the North Country Trail, will be leading the project on site. Please consider volunteering a day to make this project work smoothly. This is slightly different, more complicated project but it will be very interesting. Also bring cordless drills with extra batteries if you have them, good leather work gloves as we will be working with cable and chains, and drinking water. Lunch will be provided. Please let me know if you are coming. Where: Seneca Property drive/gate on Vowinkle Muzette Road – 3 to 3 1/2 miles from Vowinkle Hotel and Rt66. It's the only creek you cross on that Vowinkle Muzette Road. There should be ribbons up at the entrance to that oil lease road. Only people with 4x4's should attempt that road, it gets soggy. There is parking at the gate and across the road. Carpooling from Pittsburgh: Meet at Bull Creek Road off of Rt. 28 at 7:15AM Hopefully after a job well done, we can have dinner at the Vowinkle Hotel restaurant
